Sabudana batata vada recipe - Sago potato vada

Sabudana batata vada recipe - Sabudana vada is a deep fried snack prepared with sago, boiled potatoes and peanut powder. It is a popular Maharashtrian snack, can be eaten on fasting days. These vadas can be shallow fried on griddle instead of deep frying to avoid the oil intake. Hot vadas goes well with coconut chutney and tomato ketchup.

Ingredients 
  • 1 cup sago / sabudana
  • 1/2  cup peanut powder
  • 2 large sized potatoes
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste
Method 
  1. Wash and soak the sabudana in 1/4 cup of water for 3 hours.  Boil, peel and cut the potatoes into large pieces. Mash the boiled potatoes into a smooth paste.
  2. Add the sabudana, peanut powder, chilli powder, cumin seeds and salt to the mashed potatoes. Mix well. (Do not add water) Knead the sabudana mixture till it becomes a lump.
  3. Make small balls from the sabudana mixture.Place the balls on a plastic sheet and flatten it.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan. Slide the flattened vadas gently in oil. 
  5. Allow it to cook till golden brown from bottom.  Now, turn gently to cook the other side.
  6. Fry on medium low flame till crispy and golden brown from both sides.Remove with a slotted spoon.
  7. Drain the oil and serve the sabudana batata vada hot. It Goes well with coconut chutney and tomato sauce.
