Rava Upma Recipe | South Indian Style Upma | Uppittu | Suji Upma



Rava upma is an easy to make healthy Indian breakfast dish prepared with roasted rava, onion, coconut and a few tempering spices. The soft, moist and flavourful upma can be prepared in 20 minutes. The recipe I have shared here is South Indian style soft upma with coconut and ghee flavour. The ratio of rava and water is 1:3. Adding turmeric powder is optional but it gives vibrant yellow colour to the upma. 
The flavour and colour of upma is very inviting.

Mango milkshake recipe - Today I am sharing an easy to make mango milkshake recipe with you all. This is one of my favourite milkshakes and I make it often during the mango season. This delicious shake is made with skim milk, mango and sugar. It is totally healthy and guilt free drink which can be enjoyed at anytime of the day. It provides energy as the milk contains proteins and mango contains vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates. Mango and milk combination is naturally good for health. If you drink a glassful of milkshake for breakfast, after school or office you will not feel like having anything for a few hours. It is filling and refreshing. This mango milkshake is very easy to prepare and can be made within few minutes.

Quinoa pulao or pulav recipe - Quinoa pulao is just like a rice pulao prepared with quinoa and vegetables such as carrot, green peas, and tempered with some essential spices which enhances the fragrance. Frying quinoa and vegetables in the tempered spices intensifies the flavor. Quinoa pulao in itself is a complete meal. As I mentioned in my quinoa idi recipe it is rich in protein and is a nutritious seeds with nutty flavor and bland taste. You need to add flavor by using onion, curry leaves, ginger, coriander leaves and green chillies.

Spring onion paratha recipe - Paratha is one of the favorite breakfast dishes which we like to have often. Spring onions are usually used in Indo-chinese cooking as a garnish. But we can also prepare delicious parathas out of the spring onions. Whenever I have a bunch of these green onions, I make parathas and zunka. Though I make some side dishes to serve with parathas, I personally prefer  to have it with pickle, chutney and yogurt.

Cheese peanut butter sandwich recipe - This is an easy and simple recipe which can be made in a jiffy. Both kids and adults will love to eat any variety of sandwiches. This sandwich is made by using only four ingredients. This is best to serve in the morning as a breakfast dish or evening tea time snack. In this recipe, bread slices are roasted in butter. Then cheese and peanut butter is spread on the bread slices. Then these slices are again roasted until the cheese melts and the slices become crisp. Foxtail millet idli recipe - Foxtail millet idli is a healthy and tasty idli for those who love to add low carb food in their diet. Foxtail millet is a diabetic friendly millet and obviously it is low in carbohydrates and rich in fiber. This millet has low glycemic index and it is an ideal substitute for rice. It helps to lower the level of blood sugar. Foxtail millet contains antioxidant and it helps to get rid of toxins from the body. Thus one can maintain a good health from consuming the food prepared with foxtail millet. The method of preparation of this idli is similar to quinoa idli which I have posted earlier.This idli is easily digestible, soft and tasty. It can be served either for breakfast, lunch, dinner and is very easy to pack in the lunch box along with some dry chutney powder. Rice appe recipe - Appe or paniyaram is a rice based konkani dalicacy prepared by using a special mould due to which the appe takes the round shape. This rice appe has slightly sweet taste as jaggery is added and has coconut flavor. Basically rice, jaggery, rice flakes, coconut and fenugreek seeds or methi are added in this  appe. Rice appe is a popular breakfast snack and is usually served with ghee.

Moong dal and chana dal dosa recipe - It is a very healthy, delicious, protein packed very thin pancake prepared with the batter of husked split green grams (moong dal) and split bengal grams (chana dal). Hesarukalu usli or muga usli - Usli is a Konkan cuisine prepared with boiled pulses, lentils, fresh coconut and seasoned with chillies. Seasoning with dry red chillies adds some chilli flavor to the dish. Usli is also known as sundal. It is a naivedya and fasting dish usually prepared during Navratri. When I was a kid,  my mother was making uslis with different legumes with different versions. Sometimes, when we were not eating it for fasting, she was making it with onion, ginger and garlic. But my favourite version is sundal type usli which does not add onion, ginger or garlic.
