Collection of South Indian idli recipes - Idlis are South Indian delicacies and is a very popular dish in North India too. Idlis are staple food of South Indians and they make it often for breakfast and dinner. Idlis are usually served with coconut chutney and sambar. 

I have already posted rice urad dal soft idli recipe, rava idli, oats idli and dill leaves idli. The method of preparation is very simple and easy to prepare with idli batter.  Idli is an essential dish and I make them often. Idlis are popular because they are simple, easy to make, nutritious and healthy. Idli, sambar and chutney make a complete meal and it is filling too. 

Idli batter can be prepared and stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. To make soft rice idli, the batter must be fermented well and sometimes, during winter and rainy days the fermentation may take time for 10 - 12 hours. But the other idlis like rava idli, oats idli and dill leaves idli doesn't need fermentation. I have compiled idli recipes for your convenience. I hope you enjoy them.

Rava Idli -  Rava urad dal idli is made with semolina or sooji and skinned split black grams batter. Urad dal is soaked for 2-3 hours and then made a smooth paste out of it. Add roasted rava to it, add salt and make idli with this instant idli batter. With the proper proportion of rava and urad dal the idli becomes soft and tasty. It is served with chutney and sambar.

Dill Leaves Sweet Idli - Dill leaves are called saipe paan or sabbasige and is a flavourful leafy vegetable loaded with valuable nutrients. These are available throughout the year and you can make sabzi, idli and dosa with it. An authentic idli of Coastal Karnataka, prepared in every homes with their own version.The idli is made with rice, jaggery, coconut and dill leaves. This is one of my favourite idlis and I love the flavour and taste.


Oats Rava Idli -  Oats are gaining popularity in India because of its nutritional value and health benefits. Oats idlis are very easy to prepare by mixing the oats and rava along with some other essential ingredients. This is a delicious dish which can be served as a breakfast dish or evening snack. It is a healthy and guilt free dish to treat your family. 

Rice Urad dal Idli -  Very soft and spongy idli prepared with rice and skinned split black grams. This idli is served with sambar and chutney. To make a soft rice idli, the batter takes at least 8 - 10 hours, depending upon the atmosphere. Idli sambar is a perfect healthy and filling dish to serve for breakfast.
